Well, it’s that time of year again. Christmas music is playing everywhere you go, ugly sweaters are the hottest fashion trend of the season, and you’ve already had too much eggnog. Some of you may be stressing about adding gift shopping, holiday parties, and hosting to your already maxed out schedule. Some of you are just plain terrified to see your family members all together in one room. Stop, take a deep breath…it will all be okay! It is supposed to be a fun time of year! If, however, you are not a yogi master or monk who can slow down time, and you feel you need to give your body a helping hand during this time, then let reishi be your friend.
The reishi mushroom is one of the most studied mushrooms in the world. It has a number of benefits but is best known for its hormonal balancing effects. You can read all about all the benefits on any thousands of websites dedicated to it, but I’m here to tell you how I use it! I use my Four Sigma Foods reishi packets when I’m under a lot of stress or to get a good night’s sleep. And they are dang easy to use. Essentially, I use reishi when I feel like I need to calm my mind and relax. Reishi is a food that I get an instant and profound effect from. I relax completely by the time I finish drinking my reishi tea.
The flavor of reishi can be challenging for some people because of how bitter it is. The Four Sigma packets try to combat that by adding a tiny amount of mint leaf, licorice root, and stevia. I find I still usually have to add some honey- usually only 1/2 a tablespoon will make it taste good enough for me.
